Spring is sprung in Hello.

The weather has been lovely for the past few days, so I’ve been a bit happier about getting my walks in. I must remember not to go out for my walk at 2pm though. Silly me forgot about school pickup yesterday, so I ended up playing dodge EVERYONE IN THE WORLD and ended up walking around a housing estate instead of the park like I’d planned.
Monday I had to go pick up some booze from work. About 18 months ago we rebranded and obviously not all the old booze sold, so the company decided to give it to the staff. 5 20cl bottles of sloe and 5 of damson gin liqueur (now discontinued), 2 70cls of rhubarb and rosehip, 1 70cl of elderflower and 3 70cl bottles of regular gin. Should keep me going for a while! I decided to leave it in the back of my car on my parents’ drive, instead of having it hanging around the house, but then my dad messaged me “can I try a sloe gin? I’ve never had that before. Oh and a damson?” 🤣 Dad has a key for my car because he’s on my insurance as being the second driver, so he’s basically helping himself! Hopefully there will still be some left when I decide I want some.
Next week we’ve got our Zoom training for the new whisky (Whisky Maker’s Reserve 4) and I should be getting my sample in the post tomorrow. I’m looking forward to trying it!

Anyways, so Monday…I’d gone to work, had a lovely chat with some of my colleagues who were also there collecting their bottles, then decided to go on to Keswick for a wee walk. There’s a little hill right on the edge of Keswick called Castlehead. It’s really small, about 10-15 minute walk, but you get a spectacular uninterrupted view right up Borrowdale Valley. Normally when I go up there, there’s at least 1 other person, so I was very happy to get up there and there wasn’t another soul.
That was short lived though because 2 17 year old lads (I knew they were 17 because they were talking about what they were doing for their 18th birthdays) arrived and proceeded to talk very loudly about everything. After half an hour, I thought “ah well, they’re here for the day now....” and started to walk back down, only they started down too. So I quickly ran back up and had it all to myself for about 20 minutes! Got some meditation in, took loads of photos, it was a glorious sunny day, so just enjoyed that for a while. It was bliss, probably one of my favourite places.

Rob is poorly. He seems to think it’s from his jab, but I can’t find any information about getting a delayed reaction like this. He’s got flu like symptoms, with really sore knees. He’s so bad he can barely walk. He said that sore knees are normal for him when he gets a cold, but I can’t help but worry. He was really bad yesterday, we were messing about, I tapped him on the wrist and he proper winced in pain. I’ve given him some ibuprofen gel and told him if he’s no better today, he’s to ring 111. He hasn’t been in contact with anyone, he barely leaves the house, so it’s all very strange.

For the past couple of days I’ve been watching YouTube videos of a polyglot who specialises in Old British languages. He’s called Simon Roper and he’s a lecturer in Archeology at UCLan, where I did my degree. I’m fascinated by language, I often wish I’d done linguistics instead of Geography.
I particularly like this one. He’s speaking in Cumbrian, which is like a language in itself. I can just about get the gist of what he’s talking about here, but I have to proper tune my ears in. (The link doesn’t work. Copy and paste this and pop it into YouTube. ofWA7ERRwzs )

But I don't know how, he's literally had no contact with anyone, except mam and dad!

That language site is fascinating. I got some of the Cumbrian, but was missing quite a bit, maybe only 50% comprehension, then I looked some more and found Texas German and tragically I understand that about 70%. I feel kinda bad that I got that more than a language from my own country.

I hope Rob's feeling better soon, poor lad.
