If companion robots were to ever be invented exist, one might consider that they only love because they're programmed to.
And this would be sad until one considers that this is also true for humans.
The fact that our programming is a multilayered, inefficient and inelegant hodgepodge of code on code with no rational input possible from this layer of progamming that tell us to love or not does not make it any less programming; it merely means that we never think of it as programming at all
