It’s so amazing to me that our parks are full of blooming flowers in the heart of winter, in January. That’s because camellias bloom only in late Fall and Winter. It’s getting down to around freezing tonight, but they will be as colorful as ever tomorrow.
After the horrors of this month in DC, and witnessing the truly repulsive side of humanity in action on Jan. 6, it a great pleasure to turn away from all that and discover beauty in this otherwise cold, and lately, gloomy month of January.
These photos were taken in just the past few days:

They bloom all through our spring and summer I think. I received a bush for my birthday last year.

I didn’t know they bloomed in winter - how uplifting for the dreary dark months to see all those gorgeous colours filling the world with colour!

I have one camellia bush/tree that blooms every winter. Most of all, my childhood home had a yard full of these plants with blooms of every color. They are easy to maintain and produce beautiful flowers.

We do not have them in Illinois but I have seen them at the Missouri Botanical Garden . They are gorgeous.
