I've been away in Taiwan for the last 2 weeks. I had a good time, as I always do in Taiwan. The weather was hot and sunny. The people were wonderful, as always, and I ate too much. I actually looked up some old friends while I was there and we got slightly drunk together at a Thai restaurant. Usually I don't tell people I'm coming back because organising meetings is awkward. I'm glad I saw them this time though. It was a good night.
Also on my visit to the far east we took a day trip to Tainan, ate duck, sushi, Teppanyaki, loads of other good things. Visited all our family and friends there, Taipei 101, Tamshui, and the toilet restaurant. Also had my very first production-line haircut which cost about £2 and took 7 minutes. It was really quite good. You have to buy a ticket from the vending machine on the way in and then the barber comes along to and razors you.
The boy got to exercise his excellent Chinese language skills. I don't know anyone else in the world as fluent in Chinese and English as he is. It's absolutely awesome to see him switch between the two languages. He's grown in confidence now and he seems just as comfortable in Chinese as he is in English. His grandfather bought him an iPad. He loves it of course, but his mother was slightly furious with her father for a while. We will be enforcing strict usage policies on the device.
In other news, the car is in the garage for a service and MOT. It passed all the test except for the door which won't unlock. They're going to fix it though. It's a wiring problem apparently. I hope we can get it back tomorrow because its martial arts class day.
It was quite an effort to come into work this morning. I think I'm still jet lagged. We landed Sunday evening. I felt all right yesterday. I feel a bit hung over today.
