Friday John thought he didn't have to go to work (emphasis THOUGHT) so he was going to go to church with me at midday for Good Friday... alas as soon as we pulled into the church carpark he got a call from an irate client who thought he'd been neglected and wanted him there like yesterday... so John dropped me off and went to work and I had to walk home. We read the stations of the cross, which felt a little odd in a square chapel with a 'procession' where basically everyone stood in the aisle and turned in a circle because they have the icons ranged around the church windows... 14 different people did the readings and I did the last station. There was absolutely no music, and I was surprised that they served communion. I'm used to Good Friday being the one day of the church year when you DON'T have communion... it was a solemn ritual service but nobody wore black (I grew up with you wore black for Good Friday because it was Jesus' funeral.) I couldn't really relate to the service and almost wished I'd gotten John to take me down to the Methodist church, but then I wouldn't have been able to go because it's miles too far to walk home so John would have had to take me back home when he was called to work! And Communion is always good. When John got home he took me to the grocery store to get Easter dinner. John wanted ham so ham it was. Winn Dixie had a deal on spiral sliced for $1.99 a pound when you bought $25 of groceries... not difficult to do! I was brought up that you don't shop on Good Friday but it's not a public holiday in the US so it's just treated like any other day, but you (I) go to church at lunchtime...
Yesterday we didn't do much... John said he'd take me to the hot air balloon festival and we'd have to leave about 5.30 to get there in time, so I rested most of the day. Then we drove down to Lake Worth. The polo match wasn't quite finished so we took a few pictures of the guys on horses, then we went and sat in the car to wait for them to get the balloons out. Everyone who'd got there early to watch the polo had taken all the available seats (there weren't a ton of them) so we went back to the car after about five minutes and sat around waiting for them to bring the balloons out. At 7.30 I thought I should have been able to see something by now so I got out of the car to go see what was going on. They were bringing the balloon trailers onto the field and setting them up, but alas it was too windy for them to put the actual balloons up so all they had were the baskets... so the people who'd paid for their tethered balloon rides missed out and there wasn't a balloon-glow to photograph. I walked around the field, took a few photos of the baskets with their flames, and photographed the sunset, then we left and came home. John had forgotten to stop at the ATM so I only had six bucks to give them for the entry donation, and as it turned out that was probably appropriate for the amount of entertainment we got! (it was a good cause and I would have given them ten, but I only had a few singles in my purse...) They had food at the festival but we didn't have any money to buy it, so we went to Bonos Bar-b-que for a late dinner when we got back to Stuart. I don't think I've ever had dinner at 9pm before... or not for a long time. Then we sat in the living room and watched some tv while my dinner digested enough for me to be able to go to bed without getting reflux.
Because of yesterday John was too sore to go to church today so I went by myself... they baptised a sweet little baby and did the usual Easter stuff, then I walked home because John hadn't come to get me. Did a bunch of cooking this afternoon to make our Easter dinner, and we just had ham and corn pudding for dinner... I've got my usual case of holidayitis this afternooon, but the day is nearly over...
