See, I used to like them. Like them - I was never obsessed over them as your typical weeaboo is. Nah, I thought they were interesting, told a decent (if, usually, somewhat nonsensical) story, and often had a pretty cool battle mechanic.
And then they started voicing them. And then they started appearing with better graphics, and you could see that people were getting more and more interested in these weird-ass games - and then the fuckin' weebs started turning up, and I completely fucking lost interest. FFIX was the last time I gave a shit about a JRPG, and I haven't looked back.
So Square decided to re-release FFX on the PS Vita and so, in a rare fit of whimsy, I bought it.
This fucking game is giving me a headache. I hate every one of the characters, but the player character gives a whole new meaning to the word "obnoxious". The story makes NO fucking sense. The battles are mostly tedious - each area has a set of about three enemies, and there are no tactics involved in defeating them - find out what they are weak to and spam it. The bosses are really fucking annoying. The weapons and armour don't actually have stats (what the actual fuck) but instead have a "skill" that never seems to have any effect either way. All that and the single worst voice-overs I have ever heard - and yet, I managed to get to... wherever the fuck it is I am now. On Cid's airship fighting a fucking dragon.
But FFX-2, which is part of the package... oh Jesus Christ, this game sucks. I mean, forcibly smashing your hipsterish nostalgia aside for a moment, FFX was definitely over-rated, but FFX-2 is an absolute pile of shit. I'm not even three minutes into the game and I already want someone to beat my brains out with a brick.
There are no decent Western-style RPGs on the Vita. They are all fucking JRPGs. I fucking HATE JRPGs. They suck.
