Maundy Thursday in Another Open Diary refugee

Things I've accomplished today:
- Finished sorting out all our paperwork for the last 16 months or so and put it away in a box.
- Thought about shredding all the unecessary paperwork discovered in the above... but not got that far yet. I just pulled out the stuff that I can safely discard unshredded (junk mail, envelopes) and put them in the recycling bin that arrived yesterday.
- washed the towels, dried them and put them back in the bathroom.
- washed the voile curtains and hung two of them in the bathrooms because my new tension rods arrived from Amazon. I wanted to use all four (two on each rod) but the washing machine ate one and it came out totally destroyed!
- got the meat put away in the storage freezer.
- Let Tessica in and out of the porch about a dozen times because she runs out there every time I open the door and the weather's too damp to leave the door open all day... so I closed it behind her and waited for her to notice. She didn't care until she wanted to use the litter box!
- photographed the mystery plant in our front garden bed, posted it on facebook to see if anyone can identify it, and sent an email off to poison-ivy.org when people suggested it looked suspicious. I really hope it's not but I have no idea what the stuff looks like and the way it's suddenly sprung up in an empty bed and grown a foot inside a week is highly suspicious... See the pictures here
Things John accomplished:
- Went to work
- Rescued a litter of five incredibly adorable bitties who were abandoned outside one of his branches (he heard them mewling in the bushes on his way in the door and the tellers said that mama kitty HAD been around but she's disappeared!), called around to find an animal shelter to take them, and drove them over there in person to make sure they were safe.
- Discovered that somebody's taken my debit card number again and bought $100 of groceries in Hallandale Beach with it, so he had to call the bank and deal with it... now I'm going to have to get a new card again. I only got this one in January after the Target thing! Grrr...
- And went to work again because he still had another call to make after rescuing the kittens.
I wanted to go to church tonight for Maundy Thursday, but it's 5.30 and he hasn't even started home yet, so he's going to be way too tired after his hectic day so we'll have to go without. I didn't want my feet washed anyway (it's too intimate for me to be comfortable with it), I just wanted to go and take communion... I hope it's not wet tomorrow... I always go to church on Good Friday and since he's always working, I usually go by myself at lunchtime. The church also has a service at six o'clock but it's a special 'family' service so I don't think it's really my thing. Even though I'm not bitter about not having kids, I generally avoid 'family' events on general principle... On Saturday I want to go see the Hot Air Balloon Festival. I just happened to see it advertised on tv this morning and I thought 'wow, that's soooo cool!' but I thought it was at Gulfstream Park which is all the way down in Miami. There's absolutely no way I could manage to drive down there and back in one day and not be totally wrecked for the next week... then I looked it up online to get some more information and found out that it's not at Gulfstream PARK it's at Gulfstream POLO park which is in Lake Worth, at least three hours closer. So now I'd just LOVE for John to take me... I really really want to photograph the balloons! The festival has two timeslots on Saturday - 6.30-9am for the early morning launch which ain't going to happen, it's too far away for us to be able to be down there that early; and 5.30-9 at night for a free polo match (hmmm, maybe it would be interesting I've never seen polo and it only lasts an hour) followed by a tethered candlelight balloon lift where they fire all the balloons up at dusk and let their flames illuminate them. I'm excited thinking about the photos I can take... best thing is admission is free, they're collecting donations to support injured Marines, so we can give them what we can afford and help a good cause...
Everything Good Rebecca ⋅ April 17, 2014
I haven't made it to any Holy Week services at all this year or last year either for that mater. Maybe next year I'll get it together better. The hot air balloon thing sounds so interesting I hope you get to go!
