Home coming. in Day by day

It’s been many a month, since I last wrote in my diary. Today I want to record todays event.

Allister, my son in law, is returning home. He has been away on tour with the Army in Iraq mostly, with short visits to other countries. He has been away 7 long month, one month longer than he was scheduled to be away. Of course this is due to Covid, what else. While away, he has feared for his life more than once, seen people killed and badly injured. Spent hours in bunkers filled with water. He’s been promoted to Major, present with a medal. He also spoken to no.10 and thanked for his work. So all in all he’s had a mixed time of it. The only picture I have seen of him, while away was a couple of weeks ago and he looked exhausted and strained but also proud.

Poor Zoe has gone through it while he’s been away. Covid hit Scotland and she was locked down. In a tiny village in Stirling. She had few people around her she knew but she made the most of it, as we all did. So sad she had to go through her husbands first tour, as well as coping with Covid. She has got through it and Al, could be home in the early hours, or the next day. He’s now on his way to Oxford, where he’ll be debriefed, before be given a hire car to drive home to Scotland.

Once home because of Covid he’ll be self isolating for 14 days. So once more lock-down. Zoe, is in Stirling at moment shopping and buying him some great food. She’s not said how’s she’s feeling. I know I won’t be happy till he’s back home. Not sure when we’ll get to see them both. If he hadn’t needed to isolate, we would have booked a Room and welcomed him home.

I don't know how people can be married to someone in the military. I'd be a wreck everyone they left.

Military spouses are so important and deserve our support for sure. Happy for all of you that he will return.

It’s so good that he is safe and coming home.
