We, who were aware on that date, KNOW what it represents... the day the "world changed" when Kennedy was assassinated. We all know where we were exactly when we heard the news.
Stephen King writes a time travel book, where the goal is to prevent Kennedy from being killed. Many people assume how wonderful the world would've become if that never happened... the cascade of positive effects if Kennedy remained in office... what might have and what might NOT have happened.
The book is LONG (almost 850 pages) and involved - many subplots. There are MANY details about Oswald, his family, his actions. I learned a lot.
Not to give the story away, there are many references to the "butterfly effect", how even little changes can have huge effects sometimes in a totally different part of the world - the butterfly beats its wings and there's a hurricane somewhere some time in the future.
Imagine the HUGE effect it would be for Kennedy to have NOT been killed. We think of all the wonderful things that would be possible. But... as this is a Stephen King novel, not everything is wonderful.

I did too, reading it in two days basically! My heart broke at the end. You can't go home again... or back again...
