Things I miss from home –
Those stupid little plastic ties on that you get on bread products. EVERY bread item here is closed with those plastic covered wire things. Sure when I was looking for those before none could be found.. but now.. their EVERYWHERE! My wires have never looked so organized – I will swear this 7 ways from Sunday. However… I’m going to employ all my friends and family to keep me a pile of those stupid plastic bread ties. I miss them!
Easy hamburger buying. You know.. you go up to the meat case and you see ‘Regular’, ‘Medium’, ‘Lean’ or ‘Extra Lean’. Not here. You see hamburger ... splits. 20/80 or 50/50 or 5/95 or many variations in-between. What is this you say? It was told to me it’s the fat to meat ratio. GROSS!! Can I just have my Lean hamburger please?
The Bulk Food Store – It is a bakers heaven! You can get all your spices/flours/candies/etc there. As much as you want – as little as you want. It’s all in big bins and priced by weight. There is not a one here. Not even a store that resembles one! When I go back I swear I’m going to get 2lbs of all the spices I use most. Yes I guess there is amazon to buy from but it’s just not the same as walking into a store and getting it yourself.
I miss Joe’s clothing. Their tanks and tee’s are simply the best! Sure I can order them online however they do not ship to my location yet. So I’d have to pay to get it shipped to my friend then pay again to have them shipped here. So sad really.
Yarn stores - you know the ones. Where they just sell yarn and hooks and needles and all other notions. Where the yarn is not only reasonable but also luxourious? Yeah... I've found only one in my area and the yarn was outrageously priced! Like 44.00 for one skein of lace weight yarn. I have never spent (nor will I) that much money on ONE skein of yarn. I don't care what its made out of!
Remember the last post where I said we ordered my rings on March 9 and they would be there by March 14. Yeah… about that…
What’s been going on. Well lots of goodness and a few things that make me wonder. We went to the local Ren fest a couple of weekends ago. It was AH-MAZE-ING!!
I could honestly go back there every weekend. Not too many people dressed in period garb but even that didn't take away from the feel of it all. Next year I'm going to have to rob a bank to get some things though. I saw some of the best made corsets ever! Expensive as all hell but totally worth it! I also saw some garb that I could make in about 5 minutes retailing for over 50 bucks. How can a simple cotton smock sell for over 50 bucks?! The one thing I really am sad for is that I didn't have the money to buy a completely handmade book. Handmade paper – hand bound – leather cover. They were so beautiful. They even had LARGE large ones, about 17x20 (closed) size. That size was selling for 400.00. I am also sad that I did not get the vendor name Next year I will have to go back and at minimum get the vendor’s name! We did buy some great hot sauces, a plant for the front screen room and the best candied cashews ever!
My documentation arrived but I didn't need it for the day I thought I would. Oh well at least I have it when I do need it in a few days :D My dress form is on its way to me. This is so I can do some modifications on items I am ordering (you’ll see below) as well as start sewing to see chemise and garb (see above). It will also be used for photos of apron’s that I've been sewing. My friend has tasked me to making these and selling them. They go together easy enough so I may take her up on the offer of creating a website for me and getting it started. Over the next few days I have to make more of these. What my friends don’t know is I’m going to send them to Value Village for me to look for more shirts to use. Here, well at Goodwill anyway, used shirts that I need are still 5 to 10 bucks per shirt. Whatever happened to cheap recycled clothing?!
I got married on March 17 – in the middle of a monsoon. They say that it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day. I better start playing the lottery because I collected nearly 2L of rain water that day! My plan is to share my good luck with my friends and family in June when we have our celebration day. I just have to find seal able vessels for them. Everyone was nearly soaked through but we laughed and laughed! So much for me straightening my hair. That dampness it just waved right back up as it dried but it was still a great day. It was just me, my sweetie, his sister and his mom. It was just a quiet ceremony but it was good. He made me laugh in the middle of it because he didn't want me to cry. We have just a few pictures but we’ll get more in June. I was even able to bring my cute but inexpensive bouquet with me. I put shamrocks in it too teehee. Grant you they got wet and don't much look like shamrocks at this point. That's ok. I have lots of time to find silk ones online to replace them with! I was/am the thriftiest bride EVER! I think it cost me about 20 bucks to put together the bouquet. I was able to find my dress at an incredible price of $24.00! Yay for broken zippers and the knowledge of how to fix them. We got him a comfortable shirt for another $15.00. My dress for the summer ceremony will be $80.00. I will have to modify it (take the sleeves off and hem it - thus the need for my dress form) but again.. yay for having the knowledge on how to do these things. Who outfits two ceremonies for under $150.00??
Bad part of the whole wedding day – my rings – that were supposed to come in on the 14th, with no issues it will be here on Friday. They were so sure that they would come in on that Friday that we didn't opt to just going home and getting them shipped overnight to us. Hindsight – we should have gone home! Why? Well they did not arrive until the evening of the 18th. Even after their arrival they had to go off to get sized. I didn't get my rings till right before the store closed on the 20th. Did the store offer us ANYTHING for compensation? Not.a.single.thing! Pardon me.. they said that we could pick out a new set of comparable value or have the credit card reimbursed. Well thank you so much! If I wanted a different ring set I would have picked it to begin with! This was offered to us Saturday before they closed for the day when they called to tell us the rings may arrive on the Monday. At that point it was too late to even order the rings from the website which had overnight shipping for some obscene price (they don’t ship on Sunday and since ordered Saturday night it would not be processed until Monday morning). What did I get married with? A ring that was picked up at Walmart that cost 10 bucks. Yea it’s cute and all but still …. Yeah but still….
Here is what they look like - Their still pretty just would have been nice to have them on my finger that day instead of a few days later is all...

On the 14th we did go out to eat at a new restaurant on the beach. It’s right across the street from my favorite part of the beach. It has ropes at this section and rocks to walk around in the water. ! His plan was to have a good supper (it is now OUR spot to have dinner!) then go to the ropes and do the whole romantic proposal at the sunset time. …. but the rings didn't arrive. (Thank you so much Helzberg). Twice I didn't get a nice proposal. There won’t be a third time either (not that I’m planning anyhoo). Supper was amazing! Oysters, grouper with baked potato and great coleslaw, margaritas. Delicious!
Oh also I am officially unemployed. You know, my employer was not the best. The inside politics of that place would blow your mind on a slow day! I however gained many many friends there. I guess some I will always have, which is fabulous as I miss them greatly. As bad/horrible as that place is I can honestly tell you I cried when HR said they would not be extending my leave and I would have to resign if I was unable to come back for my scheduled return to work day. Nearly 8 years with that company and they just shooed me out the door. One of the loyal employees who stayed with them through thick and thin and in the end… you really are just a number. I cried on and off all day. Grant you this really comes as no surprise to me. I expected the answer that I was given – asking to extend the leave was a long shot at best and I knew it. But in the end I was still so so sad that I was no longer part of that company. I hate that I have gone to two jobs and night school to .. nothing. Not for lack of wanting – I just don’t have the proper authorization to work yet. But when I do.. look out!! :D
We have selected a wedding celebration date – June 21. I have announcements made up and ready to go to the printer. I would like to send them out this coming week if at all possible. We are also in the starting phases of getting the backyard and front screen porch ready for guests. That means a lot of work for the back yard as its mostly baron of anything (including grass) and beautiful drop cloth curtains for the front room. I’m excited about the curtains.. it will give me stuff to do during the day. We’re also going to be picking up 2 to 4 Adirondack chairs for the front room. Decorating is fun… as is making a rented house your own!
I've officially moved out of my mother-in-law’s home. I say that because I had so many boxes there. Grant you she’s a smoker so all the contents have to be aired out/washed but that is ok. At least I have my stuff. The one thing I was hoping to find was my orange blossom quilt which was not in the boxes. Time to have those at home look for it. My mom made that quilt by hand for me. Now that my parents are both gone that quilt means so much more to me!
Well I better get my butt moving – I've lots of work to do for the day. I’ll try to update more often as these are long long reads when I don’t update for weeks on end! … sorry (the Canadian in me has to apologize lol)
