7. The things in your life that are most important to you, in order…
- It has been attributed to multiple people but the is a thought or quote that says, “there are many important things in life that have nothing at all to do with things. This rings so true to me the older I get.
I think I should approach this prompt as a David Letterman Top 10 List, but I seriously doubt I will have not, if any, of the humor of one.
So here we go, Have the drumroll and fanfare ready Paul.
10 - Sleep
How I cherish my sleep. Not only is it imperative for health, but also for my mood. It is easy for me to step into a day in a foul snappy mood when my mind has not been refreshed through sleep.
9 - Food
NFL Quarterback Tom Brady has been quoted as saying, “I could talk food all day. I love good food.” therefore, I think Tom Brady may be my twin brother, if I discount the lack of any family resemblance other than we both have a penis.
In reality, food is life and good food is heaven!
8 - Water
Water is life as well. Everyone needs water.
When I was younger and thought I was wise and knew all I needed to know, I didn’t ever drink enough water. Today, now that I am older and maybe wiser, It would be a togh challenge for anyone to find me without drinkable water within reach. I wake each morning craving water, although I think I may be sleeping with my mouth partly open and that causes the parched part of that, but I know that first drink of water is so amazing to me now.
7. - Time
Having the ability value time really matters in life. Time really precious to me. Having come so close to the end of my life at least twice now, causes me to truly realize how precious it is. I nearly lost it all!
Having a better understanding of time allows us to develop good habits, form goals and prioritize the people in things in our lives properly. We can only then structure our daily activities and lives. Then we can accept the activies and relationships that progress toward our ultimate best selves and also schedule time to invest into family, friends and hobbies properly.
6 - Education
I was raised the son of a Pastor. As an adult, he obtained his bachelors and my mother got the education to become not only a preschool teacher but she became the head of two different preschools. To say I was and am proud of them and their accomplishments is a very big understatement.
What is rather astonishing to me is I have a younger brother whe is rather anti-education in that he professes to be a genius but he has never had anything but low paying entry levels jobs and he has a wife and 4 young children that he ha to support because he has not thus far allowed his young wife to get a job. I do understand the value of a stay at home mom, but I also know that a marriage is first and foremost a partnership.
What is more is he claims he is “called” to be a minister and pastor but he refuses to go to any Bible school for a proper education. Despite the scripture that says “study to show thyself approved, in order to rightly divide the word of truth. He is my brother but I would not sit under him attempting to try teach me or anyone the Bible. All he can offer anyone is his opinions on the Bible which may or may not be true.
5 - Wellness
Not only isit important for us to have a healthy body, it is vastly important for us to have healthy minds. How wonderful is it for us to live in a time where mental health is so prominent in the public thought? As a society we have knowledge of effective treatments to treat any sort of mental health issue. Now if we could get it to those individuals suffering who have no resources available to them.
4 - Passion
Along with purpose comes with passion; our desires, our dreams and our hopes in life. When we are passionate about something, we’re going to work to make it happen. I think we have each heard or read about individuals who came from very humble beginnings with little more, if anything, than their passion and a dream that went on to build spectacular business or empires.
It is very important to understand that passion looks very different from one person to the next. Some people develop a passion to give and contribute to society, while other a passion for personal gain. Just ensure to and remember to use your powers for good and not evil superheroes! And make sure your endeavors bring joy to not only ourselves but to others as well.
3 - Purpose
Having a purpose to our lives is the foundation to living a fulfilling life. Without a purpose we will lack the motivation to create meaningful and great things or even simple things such as getting out of bed. Psychologist Steve Taylor has found that not having a purpose makes us more susceptible and vulnerable to things such as boredom, anxiety, and depression. What I am trying to say is that purpose is what allowsus to feel a sense of accomplishment for a life well lived.
2 - Love
Love is our epicenter in all aspects of our lives - it doesn’t relate to having a partner. We will love our partners in a very unique way. But we will have very strong and unchangeable affection for our friends and family.
Love is also the feeling that will drive us throughout our careers, extracurricular activities, interests, and hobbies. The over arching thing is that we each embrace everything that completes us, that we enjoy, and all that helps us grow!
And finally, we have arrived at Number One! (insert appropriate crowd cheers)
1 - Family
I cannot overstate the unmatched importance of my parents in my life. Sure, I may disagree, argue and become frustrated with my brother or other extended family, the fact is they are my unit, my tribe. They are who I can turn to in times of happiness and joy or in times of sorrow and personal defeats. They are my framework.
No matter what I face in life they are who I first turn to for love and support. They have helped form me into the man I am and have instilled in me the values I carry with me today. They’ve helped make me the man I am today, for good or bad.
In completion
None of things should be taken for granted but there are other items I could have included in this list but the home office in Milwaukee would not allow me to extend my list. Call them!
I realize there are other very vital things that I did not include in this list. Things such as Health, Friendships, Beliefs, Hobbies, Home, etc. Bottom line, nuts and bolts is this is my list. I cannot form your list, that is solely up to you. I hope you do take the time and effort to think about what is important in your life.
Be a good human and friend. Embrace those important to you.
