Wondering what to do for supper earlier tonight I went to the fall-back-Tuesday.
Carside at Applebee's. Specifically a house salad and cajun shrimp pasta. I've had it a few times. I've been going to that Applebee's for seven years.
Pulling into the parking lot I find the carside parking spots full. Not new. Despite the "carside only" signs dickwads here, like everywhere aren't particularly interested in following the rules when there are no repercussions. I pulled into the end of the lot, leaving my lights on so Kayla - the cute little carside girl - would know I was there.
The car to my immediate left was occupied, even though the headlights were off. Four teenagers in a Lexus.
In my book teenager driving lexus = asshole. Always. Just like cars with welded chains around the license plate or any kind of "Oakley Thermonuclear Protection" crap on the back window or any form whatsoever of a pissing Calvin anywhere on the car. Instant asshole.
All four were welded to their iPhones, and the driver was also welded to the center display in the car, obviously working his way through ignoring his parents or changing the music.
It struck me that if electricity disappeared a la Revolution or TWD, those four would be more helpless than newborn kittens. Absolutely unable to function without the electronic umbilical cord all teenagers have now.
Blow a tire? Onstar will take care of you. No Onstar? Call mom and dad. No mom and dad? Call a friend.
No food after three weeks and no gas in the car? Die.
I'm not a big hunter, but I can hunt. I went through all three levels of military survival training. I can forage. I can find water and shelter.
My father is still a hunter, but I suspect he does it now in order to be in the crisp cool Maine woods during the hunting season over any need to kill a deer. When he was growing up in the 40s his family put food on the table with guns.
I sometimes wonder if as a race we aren't making ourselves obsolete with technology.
Says the man who earlier called a number and ten minutes later had a nice salad, shrimp and pasta. It was delicious by the way.
