ShadowSelf ⋅ 37 ⋅

This little diary is intended for me to do shadow work. Fair warning: It will include discussions of trauma, abuse, self-harm, and addiction. What is shadow work? Shadow work comes from the term “the shadow self,” which was coined by Carl Jung. It was Jung’s supposition that if you didn’t embrace the entirety of your being, you couldn’t live a full and unfettered life. The idea of shadow work, then, is acknowledging all parts of the psyche — effectively bringing what is dark into the light.

Taking it in its deepest sense, the shadow is the invisible saurian tail that man still drags behind him. Carefully amputated, it becomes the healing serpent of the mysteries.
