Book Description

Ontario announced a test programme for electric scooters in 2019. Ride-share programmes and privately owned e-scooters have been implemented in cities such as Mississauga, Ottawa, and Windsor.

The fundamental directive of the Pilot is to:

Maintain a maximum speed of 24 km/h.
Put on a helmet.
Bicycle-style ridingĀ
Employ a white light in the front, a red light in the back, and reflecting lateral elements.
Make a noise with a bugle or a ring.

To comply with HTA requirements, all Segway Ninebot Kick Scooters sold by Segway of Ontario after 2020 have built-in lights and bells. To avoid receiving any tickets or fines, we recommend, according to the Pilot standards, riding on the right side of the road, on bike tracks, and on multi-use routes. E-scooters have been touted as a convenient and environmentally beneficial method to get around city centers, as well as a viable first- and last-mile solution.

Segway of Ontario has been dealing with legal issues surrounding micro-mobility since 2004. At the time, electric Micro-Mobility consisted just of the Segway. Electric scooters, motorized bikes, and electric bicycles have all become viable individual mobility alternatives in that period.

These kinds of micro-mobility solutions, coupled with improved mass transportation, will be a critical move for communities as urban and metropolitan centers expand to compact. When compared to any other mode of conveyance, full-sized automobiles, such as cars, are ineffective at transporting passengers. Cities should implement a more resilient transportation mix as population density rises, or risk higher highway maintenance expenses and deteriorating facilities.
