You might have seen the Hollywood-style TV lot if you’ve been driving to the airport recently. This is the location where the show was shot and will showcase Miami’s glamorous, sexual side. It’s a stark contrast from the gangster image we’ve had for years.
Even though you won’t be able to see Magic City on your TV for several weeks, you’ll still be able to watch the first episode of the show at the Miami International Film Festival this Sunday. And if the fact that the show is being shot right here at your home isn’t enough to watch it there are six more reasons you should go and check it out.
Magic City Made
It’s not only made here in the city of Miami However, the writer, creator and director Mitch Glazer is a proud Miami native. The actor isn’t only from Miami but he attended Miami Beach High together with fellow 305er Mickey Rourke. His dad still lives in Coconut Grove. Though he could have moved to Los Angeles or New York following high school, he still lives in South Florida with a West Avenue condo.
Shorter Employment Lines
Made in Miami + located in Miami = work for residents of the city of Miami residents. When we visited the set in 2013, it was impossible to not notice anyone with a 786 or 305 area code of Magic City’s catering service to the actors. A few 954 homies were even seen. Any thing that helps bring money into the city of our dreams is something we’re all for.
These Guys Are Hot
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, shirtless. Need we say more? There are also greats like Alex Rocco and Danny Huston. For the 21 and under group, there are newcomers like Steven Strait and Christian Cooke. They’re known as “Good Son” or “Bad Son” on the show. Ooh la la.
Super Sexy Ladies
Olga Kurylenko is a former Bond girl. We don’t have to say more however we’ll do so because the majority of the ladies on the show smoke: Jessica Marais, Kelly Lynch, Elena Satine, and Dominik Garcia-Lorido, just to name some.
Mad Men, Miami Style
We’ve had the opportunity to catch the first episode of magic city Miami and it’s pretty amazing. It’s Mad Men meets Mad Men. Don Draper fans, don’t be offended. Starz sums it up like the following: “As Ike Evans rings in the New Year’s eve at his lavish Miramar Playa Hotel, Havana is a victim of Castro’s rebels. Even though it’s a tense period in Miami, it’s also the most desirable spot to be. The Kennedys as well as the mob as well as the CIA all come to courts in this area. Ike is the main attraction of his hotel.
