Wi-Filles Autumn Camp: program to educate girls about digital sectors
From October 19 to 23, 2020 was held the Wi-Filles Autumn Camp, an event organized and supervised by the Foundation Agir Contre l'Exclusion (FACE) in which 8 girls aged 12 to 14 participated. This is the second year in a row that Playmoweb has taken part in this program to talk about its activity.
Wi-Girls, what is it?
This is a program that was created for girls with the aim of raising their awareness and initiating them into the it company and digital professions. Why a program intended only for girls? Because we know that this sector of activity has few women in its workforce (27.4%, against 46.8% all sectors combined), while it is one of those who recruit the most today and that it offers great opportunities for the future.
With this program, the objective is therefore to go beyond received ideas and open the way to digital technology for girls, from college, so that they have all the cards in hand to decide on their future direction.
Indeed, if we want to move the lines, it happens from an early age. The ambition of this program is to ensure that girls do not put barriers themselves in the choice of their future direction, and to offer them the opportunity to set foot in this universe that they would not have. not chosen at first glance.
What actions are in place to achieve these objectives? This involves meetings with digital and IT professionals in their region and another occupation as application developer, but also visits and concrete workshops to become familiar with this universe, learn more and why not acquire basic skills.
Playmoweb's intervention in Wi-Filles Autumn Camp
During the All Saints holidays, 8 volunteer girls from different colleges in the Angevin region followed a one-week program during which they met several digital players, companies to which they were able to ask all their questions, but also test themselves. same technologies.
The group came to meet Playmoweb on Friday to discuss our business and our achievements.
The course of the Wi-Filles X Playmoweb day:
The group arrived in the early afternoon.
We introduced them to the different team members and their respective jobs, then each developer showed them the project they were working on. They were able to observe and ask questions.
They then went to meet our neighbors from Atelier ASAP , a communication agency whose staff is 100% female. Offering them the opportunity to interact directly with women working in this sector seemed very interesting to help them project themselves, but also to realize the diversity of jobs in the IT and digital sectors.
Following this exchange, it was Solène, ui/ux design at Playmoweb who introduced them to her job and her career, which greatly interested the girls.
To illustrate one of our achievements, Valentin and Scot accompanied the group to the station district to test the large Cours Saint-Laud fresco in Augmented Reality with the Vivre à Angers app . It was a fun way to see concretely what can be the result of our work.
Finally, return to the premises of Playmoweb for a little practice. Valentin introduced the group to the basics of it development company and they were then able to code their first lines with the Swift Playground application .
The whole team is delighted to have participated in this program for the second time. We believe it is very important to support this kind of initiative, which is essential in order to hope to change things.
These moments of exchange are always enriching and we will not fail to repeat the experience next year.
