Book Description

Today, I reflected on an insightful episode by a GUY, where he explained the four essential components required to rank a website in search engines. What stood out to me most was his emphasis on focusing on the fundamentals instead of getting distracted by common SEO myths.

The first and most important factor is avoiding penalties. I learned that no matter how high-quality or well-designed a website is, it simply will not rank if it has been penalized by search engines. This made me realize how critical it is to avoid harmful practices such as keyword stuffing, spammy backlink building, and other manipulative SEO techniques. Preventing penalties should always be the top priority.

The second factor is content. Sakib pointed out that for ranking purposes, the main requirement is the presence of relevant content on the website. Interestingly, he argued that the content does not necessarily need to be exceptionally “good” or highly useful in order to rank. Instead, search engines focus more on whether the content exists and whether it is relevant to the search query. This also helped me understand the distinction between SEO, which is about ranking, and conversion optimization, which is about persuading visitors to take action once they arrive on the site.

The third component is authority, which he described as the main driver of ranking position. From my understanding, authority comes primarily through backlinks from other websites. However, it is not about collecting a large number of links; rather, the quality of backlinks matters far more than quantity. This reminded me that trust and credibility play a major role in search visibility.

The fourth factor is relevancy. This determines whether a website is even considered for a specific search query. Relevancy is built through the topics discussed in the content and the anchor text used in backlinks. This means that a website must clearly communicate its subject matter both internally and externally.

My key takeaway from this reflection is that once a website has established its topic relevance, its ranking position is largely influenced by its level of authority. Overall, this episode helped me better understand the true pillars of SEO and the importance of focusing on strategy rather than myths.
