One of the best ways I know of to relax and unwind is to throw on some oldies.  I do this at night, during the day, or whenever I want to escape the rigors of the world and lose myself in some momentary auditory bliss.  It doesn't take a lot of time and certain songs can always do the trick.

Today's artists just won't do and the supposed music they're putting together just can't compare to the songs of yesteryear.  I will stand by that statement until I go deaf.

For this entry, I present to you this classic, originally performed by The Stylistics.

Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)

I have always liked The Stylistics.  Of their many songs, this would be my favorite, without question.  This song, released in 1971, is just under three minutes in length, to where it is not unusual for me to listen to it at least twice in a single sitting.

Now, imagine this same song, but recorded and performed by a completely different act, this time, by the duo of Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye.  Same song, but this version has such a distinct sound to it.  I enjoy this version of the song as well, but if you're asking me to choose, I give the nod to The Stylistics' version.  Ross and Gaye's version of this song was released in 1973.

Both versions are just under three minutes long.

Not surprisingly, someone decided to sample the Ross and Gaye version of Stop, Look, Listen and create another song.  As far as I know, this would be Smilez & Southstar's only hit, which was released in 2002.  I wouldn't discover this song until the following year in 2003.  This is one of my many favorite rap songs of all time and yes, the sample definitely helps.  This track is well-written and both rappers demonstrate an excellent, coherent flow throughout.

Stop, Look, Listen is such a good song, you don't even need the lyrics, though I suppose if you know the lyrics, you could just as well sing along with this Boney James rendition.

Greet music always will stand the test of time and Stop, Look, Listen is one of the many songs from the 1970's that does just that.

It's never too late, to late to

Stop, look, listen to your heart

Hear what it's saying
