Buying new books before I finish the ones I have. The pile of shame is ever growing.

I have around 15 books that I need to finish before I even start with the new bunch I bought recently.

This is a terrible habit, and I can only read so much in a day.

Some books are like junk food; you can gorge on them in a short time and feel fulfilled.
Some are like fine cigars, you want to spend your time with them, savoring the flavor, the taste and the high you get with it.

Some books are difficult, the kind of difficult that each page is like a tornado blowing through your house, destroying everything with its powerful force and you need a long time to absorb what you just read. These books go on for a long time.

Some books are never meant to be finished. You read something and you realize there’s some sort of closure or finality resting somewhere in those pages that you never EVER want to get to. Kinda like your own personal Dorian Gray moment, if you confront it, it will be the end of you.

Some books require a special ambience or environment to even begin them. You can’t read them sitting comfortably in your room.

If a book follows a known timeline, I try to follow that timeline to re-live the entire book in real time.

The closest thing I ever found in reality is the “Dracula Daily” email newsletter. Bram Stoker’s Dracula takes place between May 3rd and November 7th. This newsletter will email you segments of the novel in sync with the story. Isn’t that fascinating?

I wish there were more engagements like this out there, that turn a book into a real time adventure.
