Been thinking about China. Should be a good two week-long trip. They have a lot of places to see; I just want to take along walk on the great wall and then stand on top and stare into the distance all concerned like the Mongols are invading.
A quick vacation is always a waste. Rushing through a checklist of things to do and see is just unacceptable.
The best vacations are the ones where you spend at least a month in a foreign country trying to get that “lived-in” experience, like you’re a fixture in the city.
When the shopkeepers know your name and the restaurants treat you like a regular, that vibe in a foreign city is heavenly. Dull, uneventful yet so exciting because it gives you ideas and hope about how you could live in this city.
Not all places have that vibe, but when it hits right, it’s a life changing experience. Makes you question so much that can be possible in one life time.
