Smells Like Fire in Help Me Please

B.C. has a lot of fires burning and I can smell the smoke. And because of this smoke the ski is all smoky and the mountains are not clear and green like they should be.

Most of these fires are started by lightning and some are caused by stupid people.

It seems to me that the ones that people start looks like it’s a lot bigger then when the lightning hits a tree or something. And then people are left a lot of times with out a home and they usually don’t have insurance so they are homeless for a long while. I don’t know anyone personally who has been where a fire destroyed their home. And where these fires are is in the interior and there is a lot of trees and forest and not many other things and everything else people have to travel to by car.
I am more of a city girl because I don’t like to spend a lot of time travelling and just knowing that there are idiot drivers out there and road ways which get destroyed because of weather.
So this smoke smell will be around for a bit and I will just not go far from where I am now.
Onto something else....
So to nights dinner is going to be cheese burgers with corn on the cob and French fries so it should be nice and simple and not much of a mess to clean up.
And tomorrow if it’s not too hot I want to have a roast and roasted vegetables. Just for a change and easier clean up.

While living in Colorado, we were evacuated twice because of forest fires, in 2000 and 2002. The first time was for 4 days; the second was only for a few hours. Fortunately, we did not lose anything in the fires.

When you get evacuated can you go anywhere you want to go? Like to the next state or city?

Well, technically, I guess you could, anywhere not in the evacuation area. You might not want to go too far, if you have to be close by for work.

How can any one go to work when you could have no home left? I would think for something like this you could stay where you can keep an eye on your place.

Well, you asked if people could go where they chose to, like even to the next state? They are free to do so, but that doesn't mean many people would.
Most likely if they have family or friends close by, but not in the evacuated area, they may stay with them. There are also shelters where people can go, if they don't have another place to go. In one case, it was a school (during the summer).
You can't really "keep an eye on" your house, though, because you can't go back in the evacuated area without permission, so you may not even know if your house has burned down or not until the fire is out, or it's safe to go back in the area.

I can only imagine what it would be like to not have a home anymore. But the most important part of all of this is that everyone is safe...Homes and "stuff" can always be replaced.. people can't.
