“On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin’-fishes play,
An’ the dawn comes up like thunder outer China ‘crost the Bay!” - Kipling

I would love to find my Mandalay. That place you dream of when the world has beaten you down and you long for a better time, even if that time was not really better. I get a little weepy whenever I hear this poem and I wonder at what it must have been like. Marching through a foreign land, loving foreign women and being part of something greater then you even if you don’t truly understand what that is. I have felt lost and out of place for some time now. Having a problem finding my place in the world and in the lives of the people around me. Even with the people who I know love me I am no longer comfortable with my role in the relationships. I think I have reached a point in my life where I long for a simpler time; no family, no responsibility and no one to disappoint and let down. My Mandalay!

“Law! wot do they understand?
I’ve a neater, sweeter maiden in a cleaner, greener land!
On the road to Mandalay…”
