I’m curious.

At what age were you able to stay home alone? Not a quick “Mom needs to run to the grocery store” but summer vacation and Mom needs to work for 8-9 hours.

And what age did you / would you allow your kid to stay home alone?
Truly alone - no siblings or family nearby.

I was allowed probably around 7 or 8 but I know that's not "right".
I was mature for my age and listened when my mom said don't cook anything. This was before microwaves so I basically lived on cereal (and I liked it).
My mom was divorced and didn't have a lot of family help. Once my only grandparent died, if I was sick and had to stay home from school/camp I had to stay home alone.
There was aftercare during the school year but I could choose not to go and just walk home (2 blocks) from school and stay home alone until my mom got home from work after 6pm. I preferred it cause I was a shy kid and rather just do my hw, eat snacks, and watch TV alone.

i was prob a teen but i had a younger brother- so i don't think there were many instances where they could just leave ME home, i'd have to babysit and that's more responsibility. i think the age is way higher nowadays though. my mother in law who has chris' middle kid, was leaving him while she went to work for 12 hours, and he was 12, and i don't think that's even legal in nj because she told us it wasn't and then she got desperate and didn't care and just left him. haha. he's not very mature, so i'd say a 12 hour day alone is pretty long, but he'd prob be fine for a few hours.

I was probably 9? But now there are laws in certain states that dictate this. Look it up in your state and if there's no legal age, go by maturity level. I was the kind of kid who would watch TV or read the whole time, not get into trouble.

It was the summer before 6th grade that I first got to stay home alone during the summer. So 11. I had my 8 year old sister with me. I remember wanting to stay home alone a long time before that, though I was really mature for my age.

Middle school, 12 or 13.

Depends on the responsibility and maturity of the child. Maybe 11-13

I was probably 11. I left my kid home alone for the first time at 13.

It depends on the maturity of the kid. My parents started letting me stay at home by myself either after school or during the summer starting at age 11. I had a younger sibling and maybe 1-2 days a week they had him stay home with me and then the other days he went to daycare to give me a break.

I was around 12 but my Grandmother told me never to tell anyone back then because insurance wouldn't cover her until I was 13. So I guess whatever your insurance will still cover if there's a fire?
