Clarke House and Glessner House in Pictures

Yesterday I posted pictures from a historical district I visited with a lot of old mansions. Back when we were still allowed to go places, of course. Two of the mansions allow you to go inside and take tours so I went in both of them.
This first batch is from the Clarke House Museum. It was built in 1836 and is the oldest home/building in Chicago. It even survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

This next batch of pictures is from the Glessner House built in 1887. This one was my favorite. And man, it is HUGE! I did the basic tour. They were going to have upcoming tours that go more in depth and I wanted to check at least one of those out. Also, once the gardens and all that are in bloom that would be amazing to check out. But of course all that is cancelled now due to the virus. I went on a cold day in early March (still very much winter here). It’s got to look amazing with leaves on the trees and flowers everywhere and everything landscaped just so. (sigh)
Anyway, pics from inside the house.

God I love old houses.
Wait, you're still allowed to DRIVE in Chicago am I right? I mean there is no where to go, but they will allow you to drive?!?
Ferret Mom Mr. Mofo ⋅ April 05, 2020
I take transit everywhere anyway so doesn't matter. But yes, people are allowed to drive.

We have SO much of that stuff here!

We do too here but I've seen 'em all.

Interesting how the lamp was placed in the middle of the desk. Loved the slide out on the rocking chair, too.
Ferret Mom ConnieK ⋅ April 05, 2020
Oh... the slid out was built to come in handy if they were rocking a baby. I'm sure you could also use it to set a glass of water for yourself or whatever.

I showed it to my husband. I thought it was brilliant but the picture was too dark to see how the arm reattached to the seat back when just the chair was needed without the slide-out.
Ferret Mom ConnieK ⋅ April 05, 2020
Yeah, some stuff turned out a bit dark because the lighting in some rooms was just naturally on the dark side.

If you ever make it out to LA, this place is cool :)

Were any of them haunted?
We have ghost tours of old houses around Sydney... I'd love to go on one of them...

Not aware of any ghost stories connected to them.
