Back when we could still go places and do things I was getting out a lot. One day I went over and checked out the Prairie Avenue historic district. In the 1800’s through the early 1900’s this is where many of Chicago’s wealthiest and influential people lived at the time.

Personally I find it sad that many of these buildings have been converted to high end condos and not exactly preserved. However, a lot of them have been declared historic landmarks and are owned by the city. Here are some pictures a I took while walking around.

Oh, and this last one here is for sale for $2.6 million if any of you are interested. :)

There are two homes that are now museums and you can tour the inside. I went in both of them and will post pictures in another entry soon.

Wow

Eh...I guess I'll pass on that last one, since I'm not a fan of Mansard roofs (rooves?), but if that brownstone with the bow windows comes up for sale, let me know. We'll buy it together!

OK!

Whoa, I remember my rents showing me those houses when I was a youngin. Thanks much for those pics. Take care.

P.S. Are the streets deserted in a creepy, There is no one here" kinda way???

Ferret Mom Mr. Mofo ⋅ April 04, 2020

Yeah, deserted like that now. But I actually took those right before everything shut down.

Oh, also this historic district is walking distance from Chinatown. That day I ran out of time to go bum around Chinatown, regretting it now because everything is different now.

In Australia, we've got heritage listings on old buildings and some old houses, so they have to maintained in historic condition... So some houses you buy, if they are heritage listed you have to take into account on any work you do
