My rainy adventure to Lookout Mountain on 21 January 2020…

I got caught out in the rain, and as I was driving around I saw how low the clouds were, actually touching the top of Lookout Mountain. Despite the constant drizzle, a very unusual condition here in Phoenix!, I just had to go see the rain soaked mountain.

The approach to the trail heads gives a great view of the mountain, and that cloud cover kissing the top.

trailhead

At the trailhead and parking lot. I’m keeping my eye on that cloud cover. The drizzle was still misting the air, but it really was not too much.

Parking lot at the trailhead, and the view across North Phoenix and toward the McDowell mountains, which are totally obscured by clouds.

cloudy

Cloud covered indeed.

marker

I haven’t been here in a long time, and the trail markers are looking pretty spiffy!

Where the summit trail 150 and the circumference trail 308 split. This is about a tenth of a mile from the parking lot, not far at all, though a bit of an incline. I walked only about another tenth of a mile, at most. I was wearing the wrong shoes, and it was cold and drizzling.

Panorama of the summit path up the mountain. So beautiful!

Those clouds are so close! That peak is 1946 feet.
