ONLINE RADIO: Far Away Tunes Coming To My Small Area Of The World in My Music

I’m not even sure why i decided to write this. Web radio is so common place now you don’t even think of the reality of it all. Most ppl would probably wonder why i’m writing this… well i felt like i had to. i’ve been online with what seems like forever, but i didn’t grow up with the age of the internet. Computers in the 80s werent like they are now. When the internet came as we know now i of course was on board and loved the idea of being online, chatting with others far away, gaming, videos, you name it!

Music of course was a major bonus of being online. Finding music that i’ve never heard before, from stations i’ve never would of been able to listen to otherwise is like … i dont even know the right words to express the feelings. Refreshing, awe inspiring, rush of adrenaline, mind blowing, … like the world is finally opened up and i’m taking in everything! Just a wonderful experience.

i usually don’t get those feelings now… sadly. Sometimes though it does hit me where the station is i’m listening to. And i do get that fun-awe feeling. Just making my little part of the world just seem a bit bigger… Listening to a station where others from their country are listening as well as other places. And from the US too, like listening to a station in another state where a friend lives just bringing them closer. Sometimes when i feel lonely, listening to stations like that helps. it does!

Growing up listening to local stations were ok. But they just seemed like all the same. i didn’t know any better because thats all they had then… that and MTV back when they actually played music. Mtv was really the only other way to hear stuff a bit more diverse then what was played on the radio. But looking back on it now and what streaming radio offers us now, back then you can say it was limited at best. I mean back then you really couldn’t hear japanese pop or rock, other stuff like that. Online radio really opened me up to other music!

There’s also stuff like Pandora and Accuradio. That type of “radio” is good when im just not in the mood for live radio and just wanna hear a themed station that is somewhat lacking on live radio. Like Gothic type radio, Midnight Syndicate radio, etc.

Podcasts are cool too. Stories (supernatural stories, and quirky cool stuff like Welcome To The Night Vale) and music are the type i listen to. Not news stuff and the like. Live podcasts from Spreaker radio is awesome too! Its cool in this day and age anyone can broadcast what they’re feeling or what they like and whatever. Podcasts apps ( like Spreaker and Audioboom) let you broadcast a podcast of your own on their sites(free only gives you so much time though).

i’m starting to get away from what i was talking about. i think i’ll stop now. i’ve been writing this for over an hr even though it doesn’t seem like it. i had to stop several times to help my mom out.

I think i’ll listen to some trance from Germany on trancebase.fm before i have to go out on this blustery cold afternoon!
