I want to add some of my favorite parts of the yesterday, before and during the ceremony, in bits and pieces..
-J2 picking me up so we could go set up the tables. She asked if I had the safety glasses, which were apparent in my hands, laughing afterwards and saying she'd thought they were bags of carrots.
-I'd never been to the casino, and it was big and flashy, with cigarette smoke and a murmur of noise wafting from the guarded doors to the open hallways. A nice guy in an 8-seater golf cart offered us a ride, and I laughed over it as we took the two-minute walk up to the front door from the car.
-Setting up the tables with pumpkins, polished by yours truly to get the dirt and goo off of them, and small husks of colored corn and squash, all sprinkled about with tiny colorful plastic ornaments, apparently called 'table scatter.' I had no idea there were things made specifically for scattering on tables! But they were very pretty and eye-catching, tiny orange pumpkins, clear yellow acorns, vibrant red and amber-brown leaves. J2 was much better with the actual arranging, but I can manage some table scatter! It was actually very lovely afterwards.
-Rushing to Taco Bell to feed J2 so I could meet J to drop off Thomas' car. I was afraid she would start chewing on my arm if she didn't get fed. I managed to beat J to the meeting point just inside the gates, waving wildly from Thomas' grandma car which I named Agnes, since I knew she would be looking for my candy-blue sedan (I was right.)
-Rushing some more to get home, get laundry going, get to Kohls, get to J2's place for hair and makeup. She made our hair look amazing, and had a mixed drink waiting for me when I got there. Talk about classy. ;) She did beautiful work with our hair, and we had fun BSing while we got ready in a hurry.
-Stopping at a gas station to pull cash for the bar, which I didn't end up using, and getting ogled by a creepy old guy in overalls, though I was unaware. J was using some pretty hilarious body language and hand motions to express how she felt about him ogling me when he walked past her car. She's such a trip!
-Laughing myself silly as J applied bronzer to her boobs because she's applied it to her legs and her chest was noticeably pale afterwards. I didn't bother with that mess, but it looked good on her.
-Putting on my beautiful $4 Goodwill-found dress that I really love, and pairing it with some gorgeous, viciously painful 5" stripper heels. So pretty... so painful...
-Sitting with J at a table by ourselves, as the rest were full, but laughing the whole time and sharing plates of appetizers and desserts, swearing we needed to hang out more because we love each others' company, gossiping about this person and that person, introducing her to the teachers who would come by and compliment my hair and dress and say hello. I probably had more fun with just the two of us at a table than I would have surrounded by a crowd. She's a keeper!
-Watching M, C, and J2 shake it like crazy women on the dance floor. M had moves I would never have expected from her, while J2 and C were just a little tipsy and having fun being white girls to very Hispanic music.
-Giggling helplessly as the very-sweet Mormon senior student and his date danced like uncomfortable 12 year olds, with 'space for Jesus' between them, while J2 speculated that he's actually gay (I'll grant, it's certainly possible.) M had more chemistry with ANYONE she danced with than the two of them did.
-The ceremony itself, when my teacher read my first name, stared for a minute at my last name, and gave a feeble attempt (it's really impossible to say if you only see it written) while I laughed and shuffled in my stripper heels up to the stage and tried not to light anything on fire with my little taper candle.
-Limping, literally, to the car down a rather steep embankment, holding onto the stucco wall to prevent myself from going face-first down a long stretch of stairs (completely sober, just wearing crazy heels and hurting like hell,) then shuffling as quickly as possible and barely making it to the car before it started pouring while we laughed and cawed like a pair of old spinsters.
-Being greeted by my husband, whom I've missed like crazy while he's been completely out of contact for two weeks. Spent a wonderful evening with him, watched some TV, and went to sleep snuggled up to him.
It was a great day. <3
