Everyone has access to a smart phone before they have access to education and real-life character-building experiences.

This includes formal education that helps people with work stuff, professional communication and developing professional skills.

And street-smart education, real life experiences, things everyone should learn by experience, naturally, not passively through a phone screen.

What irritates me most is how people have become blindingly dependent on technology to help them with the most menial tasks and issues and their refusal to immediately give up and cry about it when they don’t find a solution.
And I’m completely onboard with the boomers on this one that kids don’t want to put in any effort into anything. They demand all the answers, not moving an inch out of their extremely coddled comfortable zone.

Every day at work I see people use chatgpt for things that they should’ve learned naturally by stepping outside of their house, and when chatgpt doesn’t give them favorable results, they immediately give up on it.

This dude at work was late for an important meeting. I asked his teammate to call him up and check if he’ll be here for the meeting.

That teammate sent a message to him on a messaging app and told me no response.
When the dude finally did show up, I asked him why he couldn’t inform us of his whereabouts and he’s like “I was out of data”. I asked him why didn’t he call? He repeated “Coz I was out of Data!”. I pointed at his phone and asked him “that’s a phone, why didn’t you make a call, you know, use the phone as a phone?” and his brain completely crashed, realizing his phone is a PHONE not an internet-only communication device.

And I asked his teammate the same, why didn’t you call his phone? And he looked at me like his brain short-circuited.

Only few days later I asked them to check up on a shipment of equipment that was running late and gave them the receipt. Take a guess what they did. They spent 20 minutes looking the company up on twitter & tiktok and tried to message them. They did not call the phone number on the receipt or use the tracking link to track the shipment.

And on top of that they trust chatgpt like it’s the ultimate, undeniable truth without question. They get so many things wrong but refuse to believe chatgpt could be wrong. I tell them to run the same question through different AI bots like gemini and grok to compare results and even when they see that AI bots fail at basic maths and facts, they still believe them and keep using them.
