Just saw an article about the "selfie epidemic."
Can someone please explain how the fuck people owning cameras and pointing them at their own faces is in any way, AN EPIDEMIC?
I don't even get how it's weird. Like. Dude. We all have cameras now. That's the difference between now and, uh, 15 years ago. A few hundred years ago, people just had self-portraits painted? Like. What. Is the fucking deal.
WHAT IS THE FUCKING DEAL.
That's like saying since the invention of the toilet, there's a shitting-in-the-bathroom epidemic. THIS IS A FUNCTION OF THE OBJECT IN QUESTION WHY IS IT A FUCKING EPIDEMIC TO USE IT WHY IS IT EVEN A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION AT ALL WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I just. It baffles me to no fucking end that this is even a thing people need to talk about.
Since the invention of cotton, there's been a SHIRT-WEARING EPIDEMIC!!!
Am I supposed to be shocked that people are narcissistic and thus take pictures of their own goddamn faces more than anything else? Is that the thing? Because fuck, dude. Everything everyone does is narcissistic. Every piece of art is a reflection of the person who made it. We just want people to see us and understand us. That's the human fucking condition. The only difference between a self-indulgent collection of short stories, and a collection of shots of your own face from stupid angles, is that the former is harder to produce. I'm not about to expect every single person on the planet to be a creative genius, but of COURSE I expect them all to be self-centered as fuck, because WE ARE PEOPLE.
I see people who take fucktons of selfies and nothing else the same way I see people who talk only about themselves in conversation. They are representative of the majority of humanity, and yeah, I probably won't get anything out of talking to them, but IT'S NOT POISONING ME TO LOOK AT THEM SO I GIVE ZERO SHITS ABOUT THE EPIDEMIC OF THEIR FACES BEING ON SCREENS.
Seriously, dawg. Give a person an object with which they can project themselves louder and further, and they're gonna do it. That's fucking it, man. At least in this instance, it doesn't actually FUCKING MATTER AT ALL OR AFFECT ANYONE NEGATIVELY EXCEPT BY HAVING TO READ FUCKING ARTICLES ABOUT THE SELFIE EPIDEMIC.
