Quarantine Day 3
For me, quarantine so far has been relaxing. I started the 1200 page Stephen King book that I brought because Steven King is the kind of read that you can pick up and put down easily. I have a history book that I got half way through this summer. I brought work to do. I did a couple of YouTube videos. I did some stretching. I looked out the window and saw the sun come up and at the end of the day watched the garbage trucks make the rounds.
I got my booster about a month ago, not because of Omicron but because of this trip to Taiwan. I hadn’t been following the covid news much at all until then. I’d given up thinking about the virus and just casually wore my mast and avoided people. I haven’t been to a restaurant or a shopping mall at all in the past two years, except of course Alberta/BC in the summertime, and that was only sparingly.
Frankly, as a general rule, I avoid people anyway. I am so past small talk. I used to be fairly social. I used to like to talk with people. I did it easily in a line up at the coffeeshop or at the garage, waiting to get my snow tires on.
However I have to admit that I had relaxed my attitude a lot over the previous year. I wasn’t ready for Omicron.
Last summer we were out west. Alberta was open for business. BC and Manitoba were not. Ontario was somewhere in the middle. I admit that it felt a little weird sitting in a restaurant last summer. I only did that once that I remember.
Taiwan is taking things very seriously. I haven’t been out in the general pubic yet, and I won’t get out for another two weeks but what I remember about the taxi ride down the length of the island in the middle of the night, we had designated places to stop for bathroom breaks and that was the one and only reason we could stop. They are going full hazmat here. Canada has operated much more on the honour system. Bad system. I trust people to only do what they want to do. Most people don’t give a rat’s ass for anyone but their immediate family.
I visit my local reddit pages. People are wondering when the gyms are going to open again. It’s not that they don’t know that there is a pandemic going on, we are all just tired of it.
