My next door neighbor mobile home caught on fire yesterday. She didn’t clean her dryer vent while trying to dry clothes and the dryer went up. The fire followed the hose from the dryer and went under the mobile home and caught the underpinning on fire. By the time my husband and I got home at 5 the fire department already put it out. Only the underpinning burned inside the mobile home has some smoke damage but the fire didn’t burn inside the mobile home. I don’t know if they can fix it or not.

When my dad was alive he always told me to turn off the dryer all electronics before I leave my house. My dad’s aunt burned to death in a house when he was a kid and he dad never forget it. My dad died in 2018 of a heart attack. I am still very careful my husband says I am paranoid and says I have an irrational phobia. I rather be safe than sorry.. if my neighbors were not in the house when it happened they couldn’t have fought the fire the way they did.

You're not the only one, better to be safe than sorry when it comes to fire :)

Or maybe just make sure your dryer vents are clean.

I'm always paranoid about my dryer. Years ago, I worked in an office supply that had a single-family apartment attached to the back. One morning the tenant's dryer caught fire. Thankfully, she was home and 911 was called immediately, but our office building was full of smoke. Now I live in an apartment and I'm always concerned about if something catches fire at my neighbour's place and she's not home!

That's sad for your neighbours, I hope they can get the damage repaired. I don't the dryer or any appliance running when I'm not home either. Fire scares me.

I don't leave any appliances running when I leave the house. I came home one day to a flooded kitchen because of a broken valve under the sink. I am paranoid about the dishwasher causing a flood, or overheating something on the dry cycle. Paranoid about the washing machine leaking, and the dryer catching fire. All of these things are real possibilities. It's not too hard to just not leave anything running if you're not going to be home!
