I found this recipe in a cookbook.

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup soft butter or margarine
1 egg, slightly beaten
3 tablespoons cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Oven : 400 degrees F.
72 to 84 cookies

Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl. Cut in butter using an electric mixer or pastry blender, until particles are fine. Add egg, cream and vanilla extract. Blend thoroughly. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Roll out on floured surface, one-third at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar, cut into desired shapes. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 5 to 8 minutes or until golden.

Tip : 1/2 cup shortening may be substituted for 1/2 cup butter.

My own note : If I make these, I may simply make drop cookies from the dough. I often do that. :)
