I spend the afternoon in the queen’s park. It’s a nice day for a stroll and I’m here to make a video. Watching ‘walking around’ videos led me to ‘walking tour’ videos of New York City, which I power through over a series of nights and evenings. I want to give it a try. I want to make my own walking tour videos so I choose Krawttown’s historic city park as a first go.
I may have to finally upgrade my laptop. It doesn’t feel that old until I start editing 40-minute videos. It’s a lot to ask this old machine. I’ve actually got about 2 hours of footage that I lay out with picture in a picture and voice over.
It takes me a long, long time, the editing. Editing takes as much time as the research and shooting but ‘in for a penny, in for a pound’, I happily work away at it until late in the evening and hit ‘upload’ before going to bed.
The little wheel says it will take 4 hours to upload. Speedy.
I take two circuits of the park, the first, a straight walk through with my little Fimi Palm. This will be the walking tour portion of the video. All walk, no narration.
The second circuit of the park is the voice over and the picture in the picture portion. Here I stop and crack wise about the history and features of the park.
I spent about an hour in the morning googling the park and then culling the information into several pages of good stuff.
While I’m in the park, it is an average day in the park with people walking around, children playing. I walk behind our former Regional Chair wondering if I should say hello or not. I decide not. In Cambodia, a few years ago, I walked right past Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and didn’t say hello to them.
There are three guys by the entrance, drinking tallboys of Budweiser. As I pass the first time one of them asks, “hey, man, what’s the difference between racist and prejudice?”
“What? How would I know?” I get past them.
On the second circuit, they ask, “So, what do you think? Did you think about it?”
“No”, I say, “But I’ll get you the next time round”, knowing full well that this is my last time around. Conflict avoided. I have nothing to gain by discussing anything with those guys.
