My herbs, which I was trying to grow from seed, are either majorly struggling (chives), got sunburned (cilantro and basil), or were eaten by critters (everything else, including the dill, which had been doing well up to that point). So, the other day, I cheated and bought already-potted and sprouted rosemary, cilantro, mint, thyme, and parsley, and put them in the pots I’d been using. The mint, parsley, thyme, and rosemary are doing pretty well. The cilantro, which was kind of droopy when I got it, looks like it might be rallying. We shall see. If I can find potted and sprouted basil and dill, I’ll buy and transplant them.

I finally got a consultation for laser hair removal for my face. It’s going to cost a little over $2100, debited from my checking account in increments of $79 over the next three years. I’ll call Anthem and see if I can use my HSA for the payments, since this is technically a medical procedure. I doubt they will, so this is kind of a win-win: If they don’t, $79 a month isn’t going to put me in any danger, financially; if they do, the interest on my HSA will make up for monthly amount debited.

Because of the impending laser hair removal, I can’t go outside in sunlight without a mask/scarf or sunscreen for the next ten or so months. Masks ahoy! //baa-aa//

I’ve noticed that I’ve been getting enormous pimples on the top of my right ear, and I have no idea why. I wash my hair and my ears pretty regularly.

I’ve decided that, as much as I like my Chanel No. 5 L’eau, I want to switch up my perfume routine. The potential new additions include:

Poison/Hypnotic Poison, by Christian Dior: About fifteen years ago, I sampled a perfume at Macy’s that was so lovely, I almost asked my mother for the money to buy it right then and there (I was in high school)… But I hadn’t gotten the name of the scent, so naturally, she didn’t let me buy it. To the best that I can remember, it came in a red, short, round bottle, and it had a cinnamon-y undertone, which I have never smelled in a women’s perfume before or since. After doing some research, I’ve become convinced that the scent I loved so much was one of the Poison line (either the original or Hypnotic Poison). The only places I know that might have it are Nordstrom and Saks Off Fifth at the Fashion Mall, and since that’s both a bit of a jaunt from where I am and, also, super-low priority, I might wait until the end of the month or longer to make that trip. (That trip will be for scent-testing, primarily; if I find the scent I’m looking for, I’ll buy it, but only if I know for sure it’s that scent.) Its top notes are (Poison) fruit, warm-spicy, and balsamic/(Hypnotic) vanilla and almond.

Sikkim Girls, by Lush: This one is probably the closest formulation to Chanel No. 5 that I’ve found, and it only costs about $60. Also, it doesn’t have aldehydes, so it’s an easier scent to like and wear. (I wanted the L’eau formulation of Cn5, specifically because it’s top note is ylang ylang, not aldehydes, which I find unreasonably harsh.) It’s a musky scent, so it’s still a bit of an acquired taste, but its top notes are jasmine, frangipani, and tuberose. Also, I really, really loved Sikkim Girls when I smelled it in the store.

Mademoiselle, by Chanel: I like No. 5 L’eau just a touch more than Mademoiselle, but I still really liked Mademoiselle when I smelled it. It’s a classic scent for a reason. (The one Chanel scent I just do not like, period, is Coco Noir.)

Cool Water, by Davidoff: This was the first “real” perfume I ever wore, and I liked it enough for it to be my “signature” scent in high school. I’m not really a fan of sweet scents, but I make an exception for this one.

Glow, by Jennifer Lopez: This is a wildcard, since I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it and I don’t buy perfumes just on recommendation alone. That said, all of the top notes in Glow on Fragrantica are in line with the top notes I generally like in perfumes (citrusy, musky, and lightly floral), so I am willing to at least give it a sniff at the same time as Poison and Mademoiselle.

I also ordered a full line of facial products from Lush. Already here: Herbalism cleanser, Tea Totaler cleansing balm (to remove surface dirt before cleansing), Cosmetic Lad moisturizer (way too heavy, so I’m sending it to my BFF, who wants to start using moisturizer for his super-dry skin). On its way: Dark Angels cleanser (I want to use this on my super-oily T-zone, and keep using Herbalism on my super-dry cheeks, chin, and upper lip), Tea Tree Water toner, Light Touch solid moisturizer, and Ocean Salt for exfoliating. I really wanted to get the Vanishing Cream moisturizer, since I’ve heard nothing but praise for it from people with combo/oily skin, but at $45 a pot, it’s just too much for me to buy blind. If I can get up to the Lush store at the Fashion Mall, I’ll ask for a sample pot and see how it works for a week or so.

I think that’s about all for today.

the perfume I've been wearing lately is Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent. it's certainly not cheap, but lasts forever.

I just looked it up. I will definitely give it a sniff if I find it somewhere!
