Have there been times in your life when you *thought you really wanted something and after you got it you realized it wasn’t that exciting as you thought, or you weren’t as eager to have what you thought you wanted?
One of my first things I can think of is when I read Teen Beat Magazine in the 1960/70’s. There was a Fan Club of some heartbeat. Maybe it was David Cassidy or Shaun Cassidy or Leif Garret or Donny Osmond. I wanted to be in the Fan Club. My Mom tried to dissuade me. I was having none of that. It was probably the Partridge Family Fan club. On the Teen Beat article it says in colorful display that they want ME. And that we would have a Cool time together. It said it was the greatest offer ever! I’d get a Poster and some Stickers and some Groovy stuff, etc. So exciting!
So my Mom sent off for it....
Wow, how disappointing.. not quite the excitement I thought. My Mom was right.
When I was in grade-school my friends had a Wooden Labyrinth Tilt Maze Game. I thought that was so cool! As an adult I bought one.. I can’t recall if it was when I had kids or after… I am thinking after because I was disappointed in it. It wasn’t as fun as I remembered. I no longer have this.
I also had a Game called House Party by Art Linkletter. I have no clue what became of it. I really loved that game… In the early 2000’s I spotted it on ebay or amazon and I bought it. It isn’t quite as exciting as I thought. Although if I had someone to play it with maybe it might be fun. It sits in my Game closet.
In 1984 I got a Kitchen Aid Food Processor as a gift but it wasn’t quite what I wanted so it sat about 15 years and then I used it a bunch in the early 2000’s. Now it sits. I find it easier.. less wash up if I just cut things myself. I am glad to have it though.. it is handy at times, but totally takes up space. It is under my counter.
In 1997 I got a Salad Shooter for my Birthday. My neighbor had one and I wanted one. Then it sat for about 12 years. I guess I didn’t want it as much as I thought I did and .... I have only used it to slice up Strawberries 3 times. It sits on a garage shelf.
I also got a Bread Maker that I used a few times in the 90’s. I guess I didn’t want it as much as I thought I did. I still have it collecting dust in the garage.
In the late 90’s I got a Juiceman Juicer. I used for a while into the early 2000’s and now it sits under my counter. I am considering putting it on my counter and using it again. But will I use it??
When I was a kid, we had a Mixer. Probably a Kitchen Aid because my Grandma had one. We used it a bunch! It sat on our one and only Kitchen Counter which was about 4 feet by 3. We had a tiny kitchen. This was a essential item and seem to have 1st rights to take up space on the tiny counter. We had a high over hanging counter which could of had Bar stools but there was no room in that room. We had a Freezer and a 4 seater dinning room metal table. The whole 3 bedroom house/1 bath is just over 1000 sq feet.
Anyway… when I was married (1979) I got a Hand Mixer as a Wedding gift. I always longed for sit on the counter Mixer but they seemed out of my price range.
In 2009 I got one. And I had a choice of the Popular Brand Named Kitchen Aid or a Sunbeam. I didn’t feel like I needed to have the Popular Kitchen Aid so I got the Sunbeam. And then it sat for about 8 years before I even opened the box! It was like.. the Hand Mixer was more convenient. I could do just about everything I wanted. I guess I didn’t want a Counter Mixer as much as I thought I did.
It wasn’t until I moved here (2 moves later) that I began to use it. Actually I was at my brother’s house and we were making Cookies. He wanted to use the Mixer. Wow, I like! Less arm work as in mixing Cookies in a Bowl. So I came home and pulled out my Sunbeam. I found I really liked that Kitchen Aid.. much better than this Sunbeam. Why oh why did I not get a Kitchen Aid? Dumb! I can’t believe I took so long to use a Counter Mixer. While my BIL was living here he had a Kitchen Aid that sat on our counter and I used it often. (He just packed up the rest of his things along with this Kitchen Aid last week and took it to his new living quarters) ~ Cries ~ I Loved it!
As it now turns out I have my Grandma’s Kitchen Aid now as of last Summer.
Now do I go back to the inferior Sunbeam or pull out the Granny Kitchen Aid.. Both are in the garage.
In 2010, I got a Wii Fitness. My friend had one. Fun. And then the Box sat unopened under my couch for a year! I don’t know why because I really liked it! I opened it up and used it a few times. We have done Wii Sports on it but not really used it for a while.
Recently I have been ~thinking about using it… you know ~thinking. I tend to ~think a lot about what I ~think I should do, like exercise, particularly in the season of life. I can get exercise playing Ping Pong and I want to use the Fitness part. Lots of fun ways to exercise. I NEED this.
My Brother in law moved all his stuff out of here of late taking his Big Screen that sat in our Living Room. There is a huge Void in that spot now after 18 months of a Tv being there. A few days ago I asked my husband to take the small TV that has been sitting in storage because it isn’t internet smart and put it in the living room just for the Wii. WOW… How tiny in that big room compared to that 70 inch that sat there. I need a magnifying glass to see the screen it feels like! It is a 30 inch. I have a 32 inch in my Office and it is fine.. But not in a huge Living room. And as it was the batteries in the remote exploded so much that it is unusable. We couldn’t get the Wii to work on it without the Remote. The thing is that Wii sat connected to that Big Screen that was there for a year and other than a couple of times I never used the fitness part… but *thought about it.
So… Buy a new remote on a non-Internet TV. or replace the big screen.. we had thought about doing that. He took the Tv about a month ago we were getting used to it not being there and I moved the furniture around so the Void was no longer so blatant. Typically most of our 40 years we have not had a TV in the Living Room. My husband has never liked for a Tv to be in the same room we entertain guests. Where our Big Screen is now is in the small Loft. Which doesn’t comfortably fit more than 3 people.
A Big Screen is coming next week… Just so I can do the Wii.. and well when we have our daughter and son in law over we can sit at a distance and watch a Movie together in the times we do watch Movies…
The question is… will I really do the Wii? I know by my track record what I *think I want, yet I don’t seem to want by my actions. However, I am GOING TO make a point of it to do the Wii. I AM! I feel motivated now with the whole stay at home thing.
I’ll report later.
